From Your Director:

I have to admit: I’m tearing up a little at the thought that this is my last FELCDC Newsletter.  Sigh.  This place has played such a tremendous part in my life.  I was 22 years old when I started as an afternoon assistant teacher in the Rainbow Room, working on a double major in English and Psychology at UT.  

I fell in love with First English for several reasons.  First, it was a thousand times better than the other miserable food service and research jobs I’d held previously.  (Not saying much, I know.) Secondly, I loved the people: the kids, the parents, and the other amazing people I worked with.  And finally, I loved it because I felt that the work I was doing was valuable and important.  I was helping to shape the next generation.  What could be more important than that?

Twenty years later, I still love First English for many of the same reasons.  I hope to take the lessons I’ve learned here with me as I continue the important work I started here.

By now, I hope you’ve had a chance to say “Hi” to our new director, Cyndy Karras.  We’ve had a great two weeks working together and are feeling confident that we will be able to provide a smooth transition for the school.  It definitely eases my mind to know that I will be leaving First English in such capable and caring hands.

Come have coffee with Cyndy:   We’d like to give you a chance to chat with Cyndy a little more by offering coffee in the Parlor on the morning of July 12th. Stop in after dropping off your child for a cup of coffee, some conversation, and a snack.

Shannon’s Goodbye Party:  Jennifer is making frito pie in my honor on the evening of July 21st from 5:30-7 in the Fellowship Hall.  We’d love to see  you there.  Please send me an email if you can make it with the number who will attend by Wednesday the 26th. ([email protected])  My official last day will be July 28th.
