Curriculum....

The First English Lutheran Child Development Center is based on the principle that children learn best when they are active participants.

Even the youngest children are given frequent opportunities to make choices about their play. All of the children choose among activities that encourage divergent thinking, stimulate center tourcreativity, and center on the needs of the individual child. Younger children are given chances to explore through a variety of mediums. They are also encouraged to expand their knowledge of their world through the use of sensory materials, cooking experiences, large motor activities, musical instruments, open-ended and manipulative toys, and a large shaded playground.

In addition to the above mentioned activities, older children help set classroom rules, participate in monthly field trips, and provide suggestions for things they would like to try in the classroom. They build with wood working materials, develop projects and structures over a period of days. The children utilize costumes and props to enhance dramatic play and get involved in a number of ecological and charitable endeavors. Age appropriate reading, writing, and mathematical skills are fostered through a variety of activities.
